PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA
Pinellas County, Florida, boasts an extraordinary natural and recreational landscape that attracts visitors year-round. As the County approaches built-out status, largely as a suburban place, the Public Art and Design Program is becoming an important resource for enhanceing the County’s quality of life. Via Partnership, as part of a team led by urban designer Todd Bressi, in collaboration with artist Cliff Garten and art curator Jennifer McGregor, prepared the County’s first-ever public art master plan.
The plan recommends two key directions for the program: it should develop a strong capacity for integrating art in the infrastructure of parks and transportation systems, so that public art can be located in the places that people use the most. The program should also strengthen its ability to foster partnerships with County agencies, cities and other public agencies in the region to widen the locational opportunities for commissioning art. Our team also identified some thirty projects to pursue over the next decade.
