REGIONAL ARTS COMMISSION, St. Louis, Missouri
Founded in 1985, the Regional Arts Commission (RAC) is a cultural catalyst in the St. Louis area, providing financial, technical, promotional and other support for arts organizations. The Regional Arts Commission recently constructed a Cultural Resource Center, dedicated in October of 2003. Via worked with RAC to commission two new works of art that are integrated into the architecture of the new building. William Cochran, a renowned public artist from Frederick, Maryland has created an 8.5’ x 9.5’ multi-level glass artwork called Kardia for the eastern wall of its new facility. Local artist Lindsey Stouffer created an interactive bronze work with portals that focus the viewers attention on photographic details of other public artworks and architecture in St. Louis. Haptic Portal frames the entryway and like Kardia has an ever-changing presence 24 hours a day.
